Reports to: Editorial and Marketing Manager

Contract Dates: August 14, 2023 to November 3, 2023. 35 hr/week.

Start Date: August 14, 2023. 60-day probationary period.

Pay: $23.50 CAD/hr, paid biweekly.

Location: Hybrid. Online and in-person, mostly in the GTA.

About the Position

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, the Communications and Outreach Assistant will support and enhance the Ontario Culture Days (ONCD) digital content strategy and achieve social media goals related to ONCD programs.

The Communications and Outreach Assistant will also play an integral role in increasing the impact of the 2023 Ontario Culture Days Festival campaign by supporting artists, arts and culture groups, and organizations hosting Ontario Culture Days activities and celebrations at the community level.

Due to funding requirements, this position requires that all applicants must be a student registered and attending full or part time post secondary education.

Key Tasks

Communications

  • Create, edit and implement content to be presented on our social media channels, particularly as it relates to the Ontario Culture Days Festival, Festival Hubs, and Creatives in Residence.
  • In support of other colleagues, assist in creating, editing and implementing external and government communications, including letter writing campaigns and regional event invitations
  • In support of other colleagues, assist in the creating, editing and implementing content on our websites, e-newsletters and other marketing and communications materials
  • In support of other colleagues, assist in the coordination, production, implementation and distribution of print and digital marketing materials.
  • Contribute to the production of our professional development series with a focus on cultural tourism, equity and inclusion

Outreach

  • In support of other colleagues, assist in on-the-ground festival coordination, including Festival opening events, Creatives in Residence event support, and distribution of marketing materials
    In support of other colleagues, assist with coordination and outreach for Creatives in Residence events
  • Contribute to relationship development with festival organizers throughout Ontario, providing direction, resources, and troubleshooting for the upcoming Ontario Culture Days Festival.
    Maintain a database of sponsors and funders, and track and report on deliverables as required.

General

  • Administration as required.
  • Identify and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with all Ontario Culture Days staff in a positive and proactive manner.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years post secondary education in a related field of study (completed or in-progress), or commensurate experience
  • Experience working in a similar role, related to the arts, culture and heritage sector; tourism experience is an asset
  • Experience creating for, managing, and measuring social media
  • Experience in audience / community outreach, and general communications
  • A solid understanding of effective grassroots and digital marketing techniques
  • A solid understanding of Wordpress, MailChimp, Buffer and Google Ads
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is an asset
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills with a capacity for self-direction, the ability to take initiative and manage a diverse set of responsibilities.
