Jamii (Swahili for “community”) is an arts organization with the intent of building community and nurturing young women in leadership. By creating shared memorable arts-based experiences, Jamii is on a mission to bring Esplanadians closer together to form greater social cohesion and bonded community.

Artist’s bio:
Saira Ansari received a Distinction in Art in her GCE O’Levels from Cambridge University, UK, she also studied Bachelor’s level Fine Arts, and was a Visualizer and Creative Director in Advertising and Director Editorial in Educational Publishing (and illustrated several children’s books). In Toronto, Saira has worked extensively in the non-profit sector. This included a focus on Diversity and Inclusion where she led and supported ground-breaking projects and programs. She has designed trainings, workshops and sessions for board, staff and volunteer teams, started two diverse community women’s groups and led several cultural events.
